After Evie was trying to sit up on Monday I decided to try putting her in the buggy without the car seat.
So I had a look on the web to see what the advice was and saw that if the buggy is suitable from birth then were good to go, but if your baby cannot sit up without toppling to the side then to use a neck support.
As Evie cannot sit up yet a found the spare neck support (as there is one in the car seat already being used), and fitted it.
I then sat Evie in the buggy and she didnt seem upset by not seeing me.
Although everytime we were stopping to cross the road I would check that she was ok and I would make her smile ;o)
I also made sure that if it felt like I as treading on something that it wasnt something that she had dropped.
despite being a chocoholic I have managed to lose 4 and a half stone in 12 months. This is my diary of the highs and lows of trying to keep the weight off (or at least under reasonable control).

becoming a big girl
Me & Evie were coming back from town yesterday...
...she has a travel system baby buggy and is still in the car seat, but she tried to sit up so that she could see what was going on.
So I will try and sit her in the push chair today minus the car seat ;o)
I cant believe what a big girl she is becoming ;o)

girls lunch out
Me & Evie met with some friends yesterday for lunch ;o)
Knowing how nosy Evie can get we requested a high chair for her so that she could see everything that was going on ;o)
She managed to sit in there ok and was aided with a cushion for some extra support.
Luckily she let me eat my lunch of slow roasted belly of pork and she even fell asleep in the high chair with her head leaning on the table (I put a napkin between her head and the table so that it was a bit more cushioned).
Her little eyes lit up when my dessert of creme brulee turned up - it will be so much fun when she can "help" me eat my food ;o)
She was very well behaved and my friend added that you wouldnt have known that we had a baby with us if it werent for the high chair. LOL she was worried that Evie would spend the whole time screaming.

health check
A couple of weeks ago I went for the blood tests for my health check.
Yesterday I had my appointment with the nurse.
She asked me if I had any concerns and I mentioned my friend Emma and how I was now paranoid about getting breast cancer, and she told me to limit myself to checking once a month and to do it when having a shower. And that if its caught early then the chances are good.
I had to take a urine sample in with me which was clear ;o) The only thing that the blood tests bought up was that my cholesterol was slightly high. Other than that my chances of anything nasty developing is low ;o). I should cut out sausages, pies and pasties, and I should start eating fish. I used to eat tuna so will buy a tin of it next when we are out shopping.
I do love my sausages (thank goodness that the sausage lady doesnt do them anymore ;o)).
And that I should try to learn to Swim that Evie doesnt pick up on my fear.

loving her feet
Yesterday Evie was lying on our bed while I was getting dressed...
...I could see out of the corner of my eye that she was pulling at her right sock, and next thing I knew that she had a huge smile on her face and had pulled her sock right off ;o)
We went into town to go to the library and on the way back she pulled her sock off again and was playing with her toes ;o)

passport forms are like busses
James passport was due to expire later in the year.
As his (and mine come to think about it too) isnt very good he decided to fill in his application form online, while he was at it he did Evies one too ;o)
A few days late James form came back so he got his photo done and sent the form off, but there was still no sight of Evies one.
A few weeks later James new e-passport then turned up but still no sign of Evies application form, so I completed another one (as the original one must have got "lost").
Then bugger me the next day but what should turn up but her original passport application form!
So as the information on there was now incorrect (James passport number had now changed) we decided to shred it.
Then yesterday we got home from town and James said Evies passport application form has turned up.
Then he said to me "I dont know if you kept on clicking on the "submit" button but we have several copies" now I know that I only clicked "submit" once and we now have 6 application forms ;o)
We now have to get her photo done, I am thinking of getting it done in Snappy Snaps (a friend said that they charge £9), but James thinks that its a waste of money and that we can do it ourselves.
I think that I will let him do it in that case ;o)
Its James first Fathers Day too so happy Fathers Day.

parsnip take 3
We all know that the first batch of parsnip puree didnt go down well after I had mixed it with milk and it was too rich for her :o(
The second batch I tried I had managed to burn the parsnip so that went straight into the food waste bin.
Yesterday I got our mini blender (after I had decorated the kitchen with broccoli while using a cheap hand blender).
The result is that I now have a pot of parsnip puree waiting for Evies lunch ;o)

helping Mummy
Evie is now starting to help me ;o)
She wipes her face with her muslin square (which she uses as a comforter which is quite handy as it is easily replaceable as we have loads of the things) although rather than the removal then the removal of the muck it tends to get moved to another area on her face - but at least she is going in the right direction ;o)
Evie also now holds her legs up when I am changing her nappy (diaper to my US friends).
And is now opening her mouth when I am feeding her ;o)

pear defrosts quicker than carrot
At 9 pm last night we got out 2 cubes of carrot puree and 1 cube of pear puree for Evie to eat today.
When I checked on them this morning the pear puree was now a nice puddle but the carrot was still distinctly ice cubed shape...
...so I got the pot out and they were soon a puddle instead.
I dont think that it was anything to do with the volume but simply the food itself ;o)

her turn this time
Because it was half term James brother was down from Wiltshire and we spent some time with them going to Tropical Wings Zoo and Maldon ;o)
On Friday afternoon after her post lunch nap Evie woke up sniffly (so we pre warned them of possible colds), its nice to be on the giving end for once ;o)
We were preparing ourselves for the worst as 2 hours after Evie had her feed she was sick all over James (at least it wasnt me this time ;o)).
Luckily enough she has been ok apart from being snotty and has even managed to still eat her pureed food ;o)
Tomorrow we are going to start adding breakfast to Evies repertoire ;o)

the carrot stayed down
We all remember the reappearing carrot ;o)
Well I tried my hand at it again as I was feelingbrave foolish ;o)
This time instead of using milk to mix in with the carrot I used water...
...there were a couple of times I was expecting to see orange coming simultaneously from her nose & mouth (I tell you MI5 would be impressed with her diversion tactics) her eyes went really wide but I gave her some water which seemed to help.
Tomorrow we will try the parsnip again ;o)

we didnt know the words
On Thursday me & James took Evie to the library for Tots Tales (James was off making an extra long weekend of it).
One of the people doing it decided that because the Diamond Jubilee was coming up then we should sing Sing a Song a Sixpence and yes we all knew the words ;o)
Then they decided that we should actually sing The National Anthem! LOL the only person who knew the words was the lady who suggested it - none of us parents or the kids knew them allthough we did manage the "lar lar lar lar" bit as well as "god save the queen" ;o)
It reminded me of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and 3/4 when the only family who knew the words to the National Anthem were The Singhs ;o)
It shows a distinct lacking in our education system (the kids arent even at school yet so they have an excuse).

I hope that they get rid of that idea in time for the summer holidays
Me and James (and Evie too) went to Colchester on Friday.
While we were there we walked past Odeon and I had a look to see what the Newbie screening was going to be...
...I was well surprised to see that they didnt have one :o( Especially as Colchester is a city.
On Saturday morning I went to see what the showing would be at the Chelmsford one and that didnt have one either!
It then dawned on me that the "powers that be" dont think that Mums with babies want to go to the cinema during the school holidays - excuse me Mr Odeon but we do!

pear-severing
We know that the parsnip and carrot purees didnt go down too well...
...well the pear puree was a hit and today I tried her with mashed up banana and that went down well too ;o).
On Wednesday I too Evie to the cinema for their Newbie screening of What to Expect When Your Expecting...
...it was how I would like the cinema to be like everytime as the film was screened at about half of the volume that they normally use and Evie was able to sleep once the excitement of seeing the mega huge tv screen died down ;o). There were quite a few Mums with babie in there because of the film.
We will definitely go again providing the film is something that takes my fancy ;o)
