Yesterday I was waiting in for the gas engineer and at around 12.30 (the person was supposed to come between 10 am and 2 pm) I got a phone call from British Gas asking exactly what our issues were...
...so I went through it all with him and he then asked if there were any vulnerable people in the house and I mentioned having Evie, he then said that unfortunately (down to the cold snap) the engineer cant make it to ours in time!
They offered me Wednesday morning but I said that I cant do that day (as Im helping in class) so now they are coming Thursday between 9 am and 1 pm (which means I will have to rush back from taking Evie to school),
They have even thrown in a goodwill gesture of 30 pounds as we are having to use heaters.
Im hoping they can fix it on Thursday now...
despite being a chocoholic I have managed to lose 4 and a half stone in 12 months. This is my diary of the highs and lows of trying to keep the weight off (or at least under reasonable control).

cloudy sports day
Today is Evies sports day :)
I have put a green t-shirt (the same one from last year as all I could get at the time was a slightly larger size) in her bookbag already.
The weather today is for thick cloud (but I will still put sun cream on her anyway) and will give her a bottle of water and she has a hat that I will put in her bag too.
James has today off so he doesnt have to rush home from work either :)

on with the summer duvets
As we have had lovely weather the last few days I have taken off the winter duvets and have put on the lighter summer ones...
...I have probably jinxed the weather now to go back to freezing :)
Evie is now wearing pajamas with t-shirt tops but not shorts...
...she refuses to wear them so I wont waste my money on buying any this year :)

raining every day
I looked at the BBC weather app this mornng and its supposed to rain every day for the next week...
..on Good Friday we try to go to Southend on Sea mainly because the parking on the seafront is free :)
But if the weather is rainy we will have to go somewhere else for the day...

back to normal cold
The weather is now back to normal :)
It is still cold but not enough to make your fingers numb like it was during the Beast from the East.
Evie refused to go out on Friday in the end, and to be honest after we stepped outside just to have a little walk I didnt blame her.
So we switched on the heating and watched endless childrens tv - which is ok for a day but by day 3 it gets boring.
School should be open again tomorrow thank goodness :)

another snowday
We are having another snowday (the school site and approaching roads and paths arent safe)...
...provided James walk into work was ok me & Evie will head into town...
...I have dug out two pairs of really warm bedsocks that we can both wear (although getting Evie to wear anything that is too big is always a challenge) and I will get her to wear her onesie again.
The problem yesterday for her was that she felt too cold so hopefully we will have that sorted today :)

snowday too
So today is our second snowday we walked with a lot of moaning and groaning to the local retail park...
...we went to Costa
We both had a warm drink - I even splashed out and got Evie a small hot chocolate :) she was impressed that it came with cream and a flake. She will probably want one again now that she has had the decadence that it is :)
I also bought us a brownie each as we were going to brave the freezing temperatures home again :)
We are back home now in the warm and we will have to see if her school is open tomorrow or not...

crunchy not icy
This morning i sent my guinea pig James out to see what the snow was like :)
He told me that it is crunchy and not icy so thats good :)
And as long as we dont get slushy snow today then we should be ok tomorrow too :)
We have another snowday today as the school is closed as the pavements around the school are treacherous!
We were supposed to have parents evening tonight and last nights one was postponed too.
We are going to venture out today we will either walk into town or go to a retail park which is nearby too :)

snowday
When James left this morning he said that the car would have to be cleared of the snow, so before we build our snowman volcano, Evie wanted to start clearing the snow...
...I got her a brush to use :)
I then started making a snowman which Evie told me looked more like a volcano :)
were having a good snowday so far

were hoping for a snow day
James woke up this morning and said that he thinks that school will be closed today as a foot of snow had fallen! What a whole foot? then he changed it to half a foot.
At this point I got out of bad and looked out of the window, to me it looks like 4 or 5 inches...
...he then told Evie that school might be closed because of the snow.
I have made her put her school uniform on anyway (just in case it is open) I have already heard that another school is closed today.
If we do have a snow day then we are going to make a snowman, or rather I will probably make it and Evie will tell me that I am doing it all wrong :)
We do have a snow day :)
Picture of the snowman will follow later :)

power cut
On one of the coldest days we had a power cut.
Evie enjoyed using a lantern but was not impressed with the lights and more importantly the tv not working.
It is all working now although the fusebox has tripped a couple of times already and our sky+ box is throwing a hissyfit!
I will get Evie to check the lights when she gets home from school :)

today today today tomorrow and Thursday
today we woke up to it snowing
today was supposed to be Evies last tap dancing class before the Christmas holiday and James was going to video it for me, but because of the weather classes were cancelled and they will be held next week instead, but we cant go because Evie has M's birthday party to go to.
today I slipped over (on an icy foot bridge) and because I am now middle aged (working on the assumption that I reach 90 odd) I am wondering what damage I may have done to myself :)
tomorrow I will take Evie to school in her wellies and will take her shoes with us and she can change them when she gets into class.
Thursday was really good...
First we had to break down boxes and re-glue them inside out (and hot glue really does get hot!).
We then had to help the kids make their boxes into fairy tale houses, I helped A, S, J & E. Evie was helped by a Daddy :) but we cant remember whose Daddy :)
After morning play time it was then time to paint the houses.
And after lunch they then had to put on the finishing touches (making sure they stuck to the plans that they had already done, although I am sure that there was some artistic licence going on :)
I had so much fun that I have agreed to go in on Wednesday mornings starting after Christmas :)

thanks but no thanks and leggings with a charm on
The other day I got a phone call about the insurance job offering me an invite to their assessment centre...
...it would involve an activity and an interview with an interview panel.
Yesterday I then got through an e-mail about it and the activity is a role play activity!
I chatted to James about it (as it involves him too) and we both agreed that my current job suits us better, and the interview process sounds quite stressful (so far I have only had what they call "informal chats") so I have respectfully declined their offer.
As the weather is getting colder and Evie is still a slow coach at getting dressed, I decided that Evie should wear trousers on PE days (Tuesdays and Fridays) yesterday just before bedtime (and this morning Evie was crying saying that she didnt want to wear trousers) so I asked her some questions (as she likes wears leggings...)
1 - do trousers have zips? yes
2 - do leggings have zips? no
3 - do trousers have buttons? yes
4 - do leggings have buttons? no
5 - do trousers have belt loops? yes
6 - do leggings have belt loops? no
7 - (holding up her school trousers) are these leggings or trousers?
we are now calling them leggings with a charm on and she is wearing them :)

back to normality
Today is the first day back to school after the half term holiday.
Evie is still getting dressed...
...I have told her that as its getting cold she will have to wear trousers and socks on PE day (Tuesdays and Fridays) as she still takes an absolute age to put her tights on.

open classroom door
Storm Doris is doing her stuff...
...when me & Evie left home it was windy but that was all, about halfway to school it started to rain and when we were waiting for the gates to be opened it started really raining hard.
I was pleased to see that Mr F had the classroom door open so the kids could go straight in :)
Normally they have to wait 10 minutes in the play area until they open the doors.
Were supposed to have 60mph winds today, just in time for my job interview!

Broken
Our tumble dryer Is broken...
...at least (fingers crossed while touching wood and whistling) the weather is good enough to hang the washing outside.
I have seen a nice one in Argos that has sensors in it for when the washing is dry :)
