no new negatives

On Thursday I had our first school parents evening...

...a friend had already told me to look out for the pictures that the kids had done of themselves on the wall outside

So I got into the classroom and found Evies books

there was her learning journal which had pictures of her and what she had been getting upto :)

maths - which was all things numbers

literacy - which was all things words :)

then came to the chat with the teacher...

...he told me that she was very quiet at first and not joining in but just hovering and that she doesnt hover so much anymore but she still isnt really playing with the other children yet.

I told him that she has told me that she has made some friends and he said that it was good that she was talking about other children.

He also mentioned that she was slow eating her lunch and that she doesnt have time for a play after (she has told me that she does have a little play after her lunch) he said that it was important that she eats her lunch and that as she spends so long in there its hard to know how much she has eaten - I said that she doesnt come home starving so she must be eating enough at lunchtime.

He then said that she is slow getting dressed /before/after PE, I told him that she does take a long time - he then said which did annoy me that he thought she had trouble putting her PE kit on (its a t-shirt and shorts) so I said she can get dressed she just takes "a hell of a long time" he thinks that I should get her to practice!

He also said that he thinks she had difficulty moving - I told him she can move but she just does it in her own time.

He said that they will work on getting Evie to play withe the other kids more, and I said that she has always don activities with other children such as Tumble Tots and tap dancing and swimming lessons.

But he was impressed that she knew all of her shapes so that was good :)

And that she is now going to the snack table to get herself a snack too :)

Her next parents evening is in March - so hopefully she has improved a bit :)

the chocolate teapot place

When Evie woke up this morning she asked me what we were doing that day...

...she does ask every day :)

And I told her that we would go to the cafe where the other Tumble Tots was, and the same place where she had her hot chocolate in a teapot :)

And perhaps we will have some cake also :)

completing tumble tots

Evie did her last official Tumble Tots session yesterday...

...Evie gave the lady who runs it her thank you card (and we included a photo of Evie in the card too) which was appreciated :).

I asked if it would be ok to do a photo of Evie getting her certificate (I had seen someone doing it last year so I was sure it would be ok), and they said yes.

When it started I was surprised by how few kids were there, there was only 10.

The kids were then split into 2 groups (it was a circuit this week as it is the end of term).

Then halfway through everything stopped and they did stretchy lycra and then carried on going around the circuit.

Then it was finished and the kids did their end song/dance and then it was certificate time, and they said that we could take photos (so that was good).

We gave out the sweets and we didnt even have to open the second packet and that included giving a packet each to the ladies who do it too.

last tumble tots*

Today will be Evies last Tumble Tots session...

We have 2 multipacks of mini haribos, 1 pack would have been enough had the kids still been at school but because it is now the school holidays we have enough for siblings also :)

We have a thank you card that is still to be written out :)

And Evie will received her completion certificate :)

*we do have a make up session to do on Wednesday as we missed last Monday as Evie had her show.

another thing to take tissues to

Yesterday at Tumble Tots we were waiting for the previous class to finish and another Mum came in with her little girl "E"...

...she said to E tell Evie what you did yesterday?

so she told us that she did her ballet show, as Evie has her end of year show coming up in July I asked how she was and she said she was fine :)

She also warmed me to take tissues as the Mums and Grannies were crying...

...incidentally the dvd guy was there too, as we were first on the list we managed to gets Evies done before it even started :)

he wasnt there

Yesterday morning I chose Evie a top that she could wear that wouldnt interfere with the white screen behind her.

We got to Tumble Tots (the class before had already finished so we walked in) and there were people sitting (putting shoes and socks back on) where the dvd man should have been!

My first thought was "no, I've got the wrong date" bit no he should have been there but he has car troubles, so hopefully he will be there next week...

Today we pay for our last half term of Tumble Tots...

...and while we are there the bloke is doing what will be her last dvd (she only has the fairground adventure to do which we will do today).

the first parents evening

So we arrived 5 minutes before our slot ], and the manager asked us who we were there to see and she then said that Evies key worker (the person who helps her do stuff) will be with us shortly and then handed us her learning journey :)

We were then called in and we were told the steps they were taking in conjunction with what were doing at home to get her ready for going to school.

The other area which has always been on the table was Evie socialising...

...she is now starting to play with others without having to be coaxed into it so thats good.

I have told them all of the social things that Evie does, tap dancing, tumble tots and swimming lessons, so they should all be helping her confidence with speaking to other kids and playing with them.

They must be paying off as she said that she even heard Evie singing/talking loudly the day before ;o)

I doubt that all parents evenings will be as good but we can hope :)

ps there are another 2 posts to follow... :)

school place offer

You will be pleased to know that I managed to wait until I woke up :)

So as not to crash the Essex website I decided to check my e-mails first...

...and there waiting between metro and flickr was our school place offer...

...so what did we get?

we got our first choice :)

So today after Tumble Tots we are going to pop into Asda to buy Evie a school dress (with a zip rather than buttons) so that she can start getting used to her school uniform :).

Evie confusion

Yesterday at the end of Tumble Tots they were doing the birthdays and they asked Evie to stand up...

...so my Evie stood up and one of the ladies asked her if it was her birthday and she said "yes" so they gave her a card and a sticker,  I was just about to shout "its the wrong Evie" when the lady running it said that it was the wrong one.

So they asked Evie for the card and sticker back (why they couldnt have written a new card and got out another sticker is beyond me).

when Evie came running back I could see that she was upset,,,

...so on our way home we went via Asda and Evie chose a card to replace the one that they wanted back.

the replacement card that Evie chose
While we were in there I treated myself to a marmite Easter egg ;o) and Evie chose a milkybar barnyard egg and we treated James to a lion egg to get the 3 for £10 offer ;o)

ami gami

While looking for arts and crafts to do for the summer holidays last year I came across Ami Gami mini figures but at £5.99 each they were too expensive.

On Saturday we were in Sainsburys doing our food shopping and we were looking at the toys I then saw that they were selling them off for £1.50 each so we bought the butterfly, hedgehog (which we havent made yet) and frog.

So yesterday afternoon after Tumble Tots and having our lunch we did our ami gamis ;o)

Evie did the butterfly one

Evie gave her a strawberry nose

as well as girly eyes and a swirl

and I did the frog one

hide and seek Evies way

Evie has been wanting to play hide and seek with her monkey keyring...

I hide her and Evie counts to ten with her hands splayed and her eyes open (so she can see where I have hidden her) and then Evies "looks" for her ;o)

coco monkey hiding
Yesterday Evie walked to and from Tumble Tots again ;o)

We were almost home and Evie was saying again that she didnt want to walk so when we got to the footbridge I told her that she could have a rest on the wall (once we were away from the duel carriageway).

racing and walking

Yesterday morning after breakfast we went upstairs to get dressed.

Evie went to the toilet first while I sorted out her clothes, and while I was going to go to the toilet I asked her to get dressed.

I went in a few minutes later and found her lying on the bed!

After it took nearly 2 hours the other day I thought that I would try the racing technique again, so I said to her "lets race to see who can get dressed first"

She then got up and took her glasses off and kept on telling me that she was going to win ;o)

She ran in to show me that she had taken off her top shouting "Im winning mummy" so I sent her back into her room...

...then she ran in to show me that she had taken off  her bottoms, then her vest, the she had her long sleeved top on, she needed me to help her with her tumble tots t-shirt, and she also needed a bit of help with her trousers too.

And yay she won ;o)

And as I hadnt gotten out her socks I did them for her after.

I asked her if she wanted to walk to Tumble Tots or go in the buggy, she said that she wanted to go in the buggy...

...so I asked her again just before we were leaving and she said that she wanted to walk, so I then asked if I should bring the buggy with me just in case she got tired and she said "no" so I left it at home.

We left home 15 minutes earlier than we do normally (in case she dawdled) I think it only took as an extra 5 minutes all told so that was good.

She then did tumble tots...

...as she normally has a packet of crisps on the way home I decided to let her eat them before we left t come home as walking and eating might have been a bit of a struggle.

She was about halfway through her bag when she said that she wanted to go home now so I told her that we could leave after she had finished

So we went to the toilet and set off home...

..no sooner had we walked out Evie said that she was too tired to walk!

So I told her that it wasnt that far to go and the sooner we got home the sooner she could have some lunch ;o)

I kept on talking to her telling her how close landmarks were (such as the archway we walk through and the footbridge we walk over) ;o)

We eventually got home (only 10 minutes later than normal) and I expected her to want a nap after lunch but she kept on going until bedtime ;o)

birthday christmas and everything in between

Evie had a great birthday, she had a great day at pre school and I was told that she had worn the birthday hat all day ;o)

We went to Lakeside on the Friday and went and saw Santa (I dont think that it was worth the £6 charge though) but Evie did enjoy herself ;o)

And then we went and had lunch at Wagamama ;o)

On the Sunday we went to one of Evies friends from Tumble Tots birthday party ;o)

And we had a great Christmas ;o)

Evie the elf

Evie even had a drink today in a big girl porcelain mug ;o)

a different route

On Tuesday Evie had an appointment at the eye clinic at the hospital.

One of the mums at Tumble Tots told me back in September that the no 47 bus was being cancelled from the 1st November, so at the beginning of November I checked the website and the bus was still running but only every 50 minutes now!

So last week while taking Evie to Tumble Tots I casually checked the bus stop and found it strance that it didnt mention the no 47 bus!

On Sunday I decided to check the website to see exactly what time the bus would be I knew the rough time by what time it would arrive at the hospital, but wanted to know for sure.

I looked at the timetable and saw the time that it would pick up from Asda but couldnt see the bus stop that I wanted, so I searched for the bus stop that I would be getting on at and it said to walk to the duel carriageway...

...aaarrrgggghhhhh

It seemed that they had changed the bus route too!

As there was no way that I was going to attempt to cross the duel carriageway with Evie I went into full drama queen mode ;o)

saying that I would have to cancel the appointment etc.

In the end I decided to get an all day bus ticket for Chelmsford (only 50p more than a return), and got 2 buses to the hospital, it also meant less walking for Evie too ;o).

The journey went well and the bus stops were next to each other at the interchange (at the bus station on the way there and the train station on the way back).

On the plus side Evie got ready and ate her breakfast really quickly (to be honest I didnt take any chances and got her undressed/dressed myself).

But she did throw a tantrum over a minnie mouse plane at the hospital (we had real tears too), eating a bag of crisps soon stopped the tears ;o)

does it mean we cant video it?

Yesterday morning when I dropped Evie off at pre school she ran off from me like she normally does (after letting me take off her coat) and was in the play kitchen with another little girl...

...as I was going to sign Evie in I could hear her shouting "bye Mummy" and the other little girl was shouting "bye" to me too ;o).

When I came to pick her up at the end of the day I was told that there was a letter in her drawer with the details of the nativity,

I noted what time it was (as its on a Monday we are having to move her Tumble Tots session too) and the pre school Christmas party is that day as well.

I also saw on the letter that it says "to ensure the safeguarding of the children no photography until after the play has finished" so does that mean that we cant video it?  James is going to ring the pre school to ask...

...as long as he doesnt annoy them in the process ;o)

The DVD bloke is coming to Tumble Tots today to film (what will be Evies last virtually seeing Santa DVD) tat reminds me I will make sure I bring her hat with us ;o).

And tonight I am seeing another school, Im not sure if its going to be just me or all 3 of us.

school visits

Yesterday at Tumble Tots one of the Mums was saying that schools hold open mornings/evenings for prospective parents.

So when we got home I switched the pc back on and did a search for the schools in our area to see if any were saying yet when their days would be (so I can book our places and to see if James can get the time off to come too).

The first two schools I searched didnt have any mention and then the third one said they had a date on 6th October (brilliant, I was just about to e-mail James when I saw a crucial red banner at the bottom saying "proudly produced by Portsmouth City Council!) ;o)

I then refined the search for the school and included Chelmsford and alas that one didnt have any information either...

It reminds me of an ex boss I had (who is very posh think Tim nice but Dim) he rang up a school wanting to put his sons name down and was promptly told that you dont need to put your kids name down for comprehensive schools!  I dont know if he eventually got hold of the right school or not ;o)

Still I shall ask at the school tomorrow about when theirs is when I drop Evie off at pre school - she is getting very excited about having her lunch there tomorrow (she has told me that she is going to feed her toy monkey ;o)).
