six week check

I had my six week check up last Friday, and thanks to my dry run the week before we made it on time ;o)

I fed Evie at 7.30 in the knowledge that if the doctors surgery was running on time (I think that you can see where this is leading) that she wouldnt need feeding until we were finished.

So we arrived at the doctors 10 minutes early so that I wouldnt be all het up and signed myself in found a seat.  I then took Evies coat off as it was really warm in there before taking my coat off.

My appointment time (10:20) came and went and I wasnt called in, it the got to 11am and as suspected Evie started getting hungry - so came the dilemma do I risk starting to feed Evie and then annoy her by stopping mid feed or do we try to hold her off until I have been seen?

So I asked the receptionist how late the doctor was running as Evie needs feeding - she then asked wgat my name was and I told her and she said that I would be seen after the next person to go in - hurrah!

So I did have time to feed Evie ;o)

Just after I had winded her it was my turn to see the doctor.

I told him that I was there for my six week check up and he looked at my notes and saw that I had a cesarean because Evie was breach and I told him about the pooling blood too and he said that it sounded like I had a bad time of it...

...I never thought of it like that as I have heard of far worse birth experiences from my fellow NCT mums ;o).

Anyway I told him how my carpal tunnel syndrome still hasnt completely gone and he said that it can take upto 8 weeks to go!  It is gradually getting better so fingers crossed ;o)

He then asked what we were going to do about contraception?  I felt like telling him that we were far too knackered out for anything like that!  Still he has given me some options to think about ;o)

He then looked at my stitches and said that they were healing nicely which was a relief ;o)

I then got weighed and had lost another two pounds ;o)

last home visit

Yesterday saw our last home visit from the Health Visitor.

She weighed Evie and she has put on another 7oz and now weighs 7lbs 9oz ;o)

She also carried out a postnatal depression check luckily I only scored 2 points out of a possible 13...

The next time that I get Evie weighed will be at her 8 week check and then after that it will be at the Health Visitors clinic every 2 to 4 weeks (depending on how Im feeling).

dry run

I finally got around to doing a dry run of walking into town in preparation for my 6 week checkup at the doctors this Friday coming.

Evie finally woke up just after 8am and I fed her and changed her nappy...

...while she was sleeping I then got her changing bag ready (just putting in 2 sterilised bottles), and got her out a hat and some socks to wear to keep her that little bit warmer.

I then had a shower got dressed and had some breakfast (I had my breakfast inbetween putting the pushchair together...

...we finally got out at 10.10...

the findings from this tell me that I will have to either get Evie up earlier or put all of the stuff together and get myself ready before she wakes up for her feed!

LOL no wonder my Mum was always running late ;o)

hip scan

Because Evie was breech we were told that she would need to have a hip scan when she was 6 weeks old....

...well we had the scan done yesterday.

I was a bit worried about what the process involved as while we were waiting for our turn we could hear a lot of crying from a baby :o(

The scan involved Evie having to lie on her side (with me holding her still) in a makeshift cradle and I had to undo her babygrow and vest and nappy and they ran a wand over her hip to check that it wasnt harmed in any way.

As it was the ladies doing the scan said that as far as they could tell her hips were fine and that she was the best behaved baby that day ;o)

my mid afternoon nap was that good

Yesterday when James got home from work I dumped Evie on him (as the little rascal wouldnt go to sleep after her feed) and went up for a nap...

I woke up at about 5.40 and was convinced that it was Wednesday morning and I was trying to work out when Evie was due for her next feed.

It then dawned on me that it was still only Tuesday and that I should get up so that I can do my dinner ;o)

Incidentally Evie decided to have her long sleep between 9pm and 3am as opposed to between midnight and 6am which was what I would have preferred :o(

And I coudnt get back to sleep after her 6am feed!

Did I just look fat then?

We were in the supermarket on Sunday doing our shop...

...I had just got the handheld scanner and put it on the child seat on the trolley when one of the other regular Sunday morning shoppers came upto me to ask if Evie was my baby and then said that she didnt even realize I was pregnant!

She did say that Evie looks cute ;o)

I am guessing that I either looked really fat or that she is a person who doesnt notice someones appearance.  Hopefully it was the latter ;o)

weeing on the scales

The Health Visitors nursery nurse came today to weigh Evie...

...she has done really well and has put on another 11 ounces in the past 10 days ;o)

Evie did however leave her mark on the scales by having a wee ;o)

She told me that its not the first or last time that it will happen...

...Im just glad that it wasnt a poop ;o)

Yesterday was James last day of Paternity Leave.

We slept in until 9am as Evie was tired out from playing up last night ;o).

not as bad as I thought

I thought that I had loads of midwife appointments while I was pregnant but managed to keep on top of all of the dates thanks to having ms outlook at work...

And as I am not at work at the moment and dont have outlook I have had to buy a proper diary...

...I have never had a need for a diary previous to this, so its another whole new experience...

...LOL I almost feel bad (with almost being the operative word) at scoffing at my Mum when she said "I will have to check my diary" if I would be speaking to her about meeting up ;o).

Part of booking me in for my C-section involved me getting weighed (I am  pleased to say that I weighed slightly less than way back when I originally started dieting)...

I decided to weigh myself today and have to admit that I was fully expecting the worst what with just having Christmas and the like, and I am pleased to say that I only have two stone (28 pounds to my US friends) to get back to how much I weighed before getting pregnant and three and a half stone (49 pounds) to get back down to my lowest weight ;o)

driving her dad bonkers

Normally Evie settles down really well after we have fed her...

...but not yesterday...

in the morning she was fine and going to sleep after but in the afternoon it was a whole different ball game.

I fed her and then tried to put her down for a sleep but she was still really restless and wouldnt go to sleep...

...in fact she was awake for so long that it then came around to the time for her next feed!

So I fed her and changed her again and again tried to put her down.

...she wasnt having any of it so I ended up having her with her head on my shoulder and she eventually went off and we did manage to get her to sleep in her moses basket.

I then went upto bed and left James to look after her and as soon as I went up she decided that she was hungry again (and yes it was time for another feed), three hours later I was aware of James coming up with her saying that she was "driving him bonkers" as she just wouldnt go back to sleep, she wouldnt want to be laid on her back or on her front and James ended up laying her on her side in bed next to him until she fell asleep...

..and this morning she has been back to normal and sleeping after having been fed and changed.

registrating

In England & Wales you get 42 days to register your babies birth.

So I rang up yesterday to book an appointment, luckily I managed to get an appointment for today.

I had to confirm my name & Evies date of birth, and place of birth, then we had to confirm our full names, occupations, address and our places of birth.  The short birth certificate was free but a full one (which they prefer to have if you apply for a passport) is £3.50!

Evie was mainly well behaved but was starting to get hungry towards the end and was letting everyone know that she was getting hungry.  LOL the registrar had to talk over her noises (but I am sure that she has had some very noisy babies to contend with) ;o).

I also went and registered her with my doctors too, and booked my postnatal checkup and Evies 8 week check up.

new year and a whole load of new sh1t

Blimey its 2012 already...

...if anyone told me at the beginning of last year that I would have had a baby by today I would have thought that they were joking ;o).

We were in Starbucks today and shock horror the disabled toilet (with the baby changing facilities) was locked (as the toilet was not working) so I became one of those annoying Mothers (you know the ones who make demands for the rights of their offspring) and asked them if they could unlock it for me so I could use the changing mat ;o).

LOL I didnt feel bad as they do know us in there and we did bring them in a bag of basics chocolates & toffees ;o).  They opened it up for me and when I was finished I let them know so that they could lock it up again!
