labelling up

As Evie has her first afternoon at school next Friday, I thought that I had better start labelling up her clothes...

...the stuff bought from the school shops have labels on them :)

some are big and some are small

We are supposed to label everything...

...so how do you label socks?

I would suggest one of the following methods to label socks. Choose Evie's favourite colour and put an E or a dot on the underside of the sock, with a permanent marker, and tell Evie that all her socks will have that dot or letter in that colour underneath.
Or you can get a coloured thread in your needle and put a couple of stitches on top of each other on the top rim of each sock. Do the stitches in the direction where they won't break when she stretches the sock open at the rim. She will recognise them by those stitches. I used to put a couple of coloured stitches on the elastic bit on the top of plimsolls or soft gym shoes and I always did it so that when the two shoes were together the stitches would be near to each other. That way Mark and Kimberley knew that their plimsolls were also on the right feet. If they were far away from each other they had them on the wrong feet.

I just remembered that I have seen Marks and Spencer children's socks with a little white box on the inside for labelling.

Sorry......three posts!!! If there is a box to put a name in then you can always use a Laundry Marker pen.

I am ueless at sewing...

I remember you sewing the dots on my plimsolls but could never remember if they were supposed to be together or apart :)

Some good ideas there. I used to use iron-on labels and a marker pen but can't remember if I ever labelled socks.

Eileen - I have some iron on labels too which I am going to use in the bits without labels to write on inside :)

I dont think I will worry about labelling up the socks... :)
