Today Evie had an eye check up at the hospital...
...in previous appointments she has had pictures to recognise from far away, but today (because she is the grand age of four and a half) she had letters ;)
I was a bit worried because she doesnt know all of her letters but it was ok because she had a sheet of eight letters and she pointed to the ones that the lady wanted her to say what they were.
She is getting some new glasses too and she has chosen pink ones again :)
Our next appointment will be when she has started school so I have asked for it to be in the school holidays so she doesnt have to miss any lessons.

I didn't get glasses until I was 14 so I never experienced a child's eye test. Always wondered how they did it without letters. I love how kids are accepted with glasses these days. I got a hard time when I first got mine.
I got glasses when I was 5 (the teachers noticed that I couldnt see the blackboard).
When I was younger (cant remember the age) I had to look into a little screen and there were pictures from "the magic roundabout" I remember zebedee featuring in the pictures ;o).
Evies sight issues were picked up because my 2 brothers had lazy eyes and we got referred in case she had one too.
I am very short sighted and I have to use a magnifying glass to read small print. I can't see to read my iPad unless I can enlarge the print and not all websites do. I inherited my father's poor eyesight I'm certain, he wore thick lenses in his glasses and was very self conscious of them. I wore glasses from an early age in primary school, I don't actually remember the tests, apart from the heavy frames in which they slot the lenses, they still do obviously. Thank goodness times have changed and I now choose to have ultra thin lens with varifocals although they never seem good enough for me! Children are accepted with glasses these days, I seem to remember I had to wear NHS ones which weren't good!

I had NHS ones too, my brother had round frames (because of his nose or something) and the ear bits hung down behind his ear which made it look like he was wearing earrings!
I'm long sighted and I've found as I get older I need to take them off to read or do any close work. As a result they spend a lot of time on the top of my head.

It is so important that kids get their eyes checked every year. When I was 8, I was not able to see anything near me. My father did not think to take me to the eye doctor simply because he thought that I would "outgrow" it. During my exam, the doctor told me that I was very near-sighted and that I needed glasses. Needless to say, I had to get glasses and am so glad I was able to get them when I did.
Jennifer - I am very long sighted, its always best to get glasses as soon as possible to stop things getting worse.
