third scanner lucky

When I do the big food shop in Sainsbury's on Sunday morning I use self scan as I can pack my shopping as I err shop.

The first scanner fell out of the holder on the trolley (I only managed to scan the fruit that I had picked up) it only fell a few inches into the child seat and went blank! So at 10 am when the store officially opened (the store opens for browsing at 9.30 am) I went to the customer service desk told the lady what happened and got my second scanner.

I then tried to scan some sweetener powder and after a couple of minutes the scanner came up that it couldnt find DCHP (I think it basically means that the scanner cant access the barcode database) so off I went back to the customer service desk told the same lady what happened and got my third scanner and hey presto I could scan the rest of my shopping and carried on.

I was glad that I was doing the shopping on my own as James would have thought that Sainsbury's were giving us dodgy scanners just to wind him up!

Those of you who are interested in knowing if I got to the packets of two custard tarts before the not so phantom castard tart napper...

this picture will tell you all you need to know :o(

So what did I get myself instead...

I got some individual bread and butter puddings and very nice the one I had last night was too ;o).

This morning I tried to buy an annual ticket from Chelmsford to London Liverpool Street to start on Friday. Since my annual ticket expired in November last year I have been buying monthly tickets until the move to London as I didnt really want to faff about buying tickets each month from Romford to Liverpool Street (plus it would have worked out more expensive too). So, I went to the station armed with my photocard and cheque to buy the said ticket.

I was told that it was too early to buy my annual ticket becasue there wasnt any coninuity with the tickets, I told her there was because I had a monthly ticket expiring on Thursday and I wanted a ticket from Friday and that you could renew your ticket upto a week in advance (I know my stuff you know). She then told me that there wasnt any continuity because the ticket I had was monthly and I wanted annual and the destination station was different! The lady then said I cant buy my ticket until Thursday at the earliest :o(. Im pleased to say I didnt explode but just said thanks and walked off.

Im now really peed of with nxea and have e-mailed them to complain I knew it was no use "going off on one" with the lady serving me as it would have given her a bad day and it wouldnt have done any good either.

Luckily Romford station is only a five minute walk from where I work so I will try and get the ticket Thursday lunchtime. This is not what I wanted to do as its bad enough having to battle through the Mums with pushchairs and the bloody old people without having to queue up and get my ticket too. At least its preffable to having to get the ticket on Friday morning or Thursday evening. Hmmm thinking about it I might get it Thursday morning at Romford before I get into work (I think thats my best idea yet).

The packing crates arrive on Monday so the end of this week I will be packing stuff (when we moved out to Romford 18 months ago, luckily I was on holiday so came into the new office with everything unpacked).

On Friday it was my colleagues bithday and got invited upto London for his Birthday lunch, I had a cumberland sausage ciabatta, Im not sure if I had one portion or 2 (if it was 2 they were pretty small and if it was one it was pretty big). To make up for the big lunch all I had for my dinner that night was an Innocent Veg Pot.

When I weighed myself this morning I was convinced I would have put on a little weight and was well chuffed that I had lost the 200 grammes I put on last week.

At least I now know I can have the occassional nice lunch although saying that I wouldnt have let the odd weight gain put me off ;o)

Having that skinny feeling

I dont tend to look in mirrors that much...

... but on Thursday I was looking and decided I was looking quite skinny - I think my trousers feeling quite loose had something to do with it...

...and yes its still a good feeling ;o)

The move to London is still going well, a couple of weeks ago we had the company who moved us out to Romford come it to give us a quote.

They must have contacted their London office to price up the quote, they e-mailed me the price and it was 50% up on what we payed in September 2007!

I e-mailed them to ask for the reason for the price hike. I was expecting a reply stating the usual "that petrol prices have increased etc". But to my surprise I got an e-mail apologising saying that they got the wrong information from their London office with a revised much more reasonably priced quote.

What gets me is would they have said about pricing it up wrong had I not have questioned the price. Well I know the answer to that is a big fat hairy no!

At the end of last week Walkers announced the winners of their Do us a Flavour competition, I really like the look of the new flavours, the only ones Im likely to get James to eat are the Fish & Chip ones! Sorry James but Im going to eat the Cajun Squirrel, Onion Bhaji, Builder's Breakfast, Crispy Duck & Hoisin and Chili & Chocolate ones myself ;o) I have been checking the local shops for the new flavours but havent seen them yet!

Dancing on Ice started on ITV1 last Sunday (the boys skating last week and the girls are skating tonight) when the stars skated on with their partners it struck me that Todd Carty looked like he was being pulled along by his partner Susie Lipanova.

When he started his routine it was peppered with stumbles but to his or rather Susies credit he did just about stay upright.

The best skater (out of the boys) by far is Ray Quinn who is partnered by Maria Filippov. I suppose roller blading and being a ballroom dancer has given him boatloads of balancing skills and the like.

To my surprise Todd Carty didnt have to go in the skate off (where the two least popular stars (by number of phone votes received) have to skate again before the judges deem who will leave the competition) I guess there were a load of 30 and 40 something Grange Hill fans watching the show ;o)

Its the girls tonight, I have a feeling that Coleen Nolan who is partnered with Stuart Widdall is going to be the female equivalent of Todd ;o)

I shall let you know next week...

For those of you interested in the feature "did I get to the custard tarts before not so phantom tartnapper did" the answer is no...

...they were all gone yesterday morning together with all of the cuppaccino cheesecake slices too. I hear you ask so what did you get instead? Well I got some rather scrummy Creme Caramels.

The question is how does he get there before me? ;o) I think theres someone telling him my movements or have I just become too predictable? hmmm

The custard tarts were in there today but I decided not to get them.

I weighed myself this morning and while Im still the same in stones and pounds I have put on 200 grammes - Im not too bothered about this.

layers of layers

It has been that cold this week that I have taken to wearing layers! I even had to dig out my camisole tops (they are a bit like a vest) too, although because I bought them before the diet they are now too big for me ;o).

I tried looking in Marks & Spencers yesterday for some in my size but they didnt have many choices...

...Ill have to look in the Summer when their Winter collections are in. I understand the whole "get clothes in for the next season" thing...

...but why or why cant shops have a selection of clothes that you need right now, Im sorry but a tankini wont do...

...hmm thinking about it might make an alternative layer - although it would be thicker and quite unconfortable so maybe not!

On Thursday I went to Sainsbury's to get some milk, and they had a powercut just before I got to the till. I got to a till and could see from the till screens that they had to be restarted (they were running some sort of Windows program sorry James I dont know which one), the superviser then said to me (as if Im thick) that there has been a powercut and the tills are down.

There was a cashier by the till too and I thought she was about to open the till (by this time I had actually put my pint of milk and a packet of blueberries on the conveyor belt), then she just walked off with the lock still being on the coin tray cover. So I said to her quite loudly "thanks for telling me this till wasnt open". Then I walked over to the basket only till and waited in line of about 10 people then there was an anouncement over the tannoy that the tills wouldnt be up for five minutes. At which time I stormed out :o(

I ended up getting the milk from the little shop over the road.

Hee hee hee there were powercuts all morning just to serve them right for annoying me ;o)

On Saturday morning our Sky+ box had packed up saying that there wasnt any programmes in the planner. I knew this wasnt true so I tried putting a program in to record and it said that there was a problem and to call Sky. We tried Sky+ Planner rebuild in the secret menu but that didnt work then we did the full system reset and hey presto it works again.

Because of the lack of recorded programmes in the planner I had to find something to watch this morning while doing the excercise bike and ended up watching Dallas, and because it wasnt recorded I had to watch the adverts too.

The not so phantom custard tart napper was back yesterday he had not only bought all the packets of two tarts but all the four packs too. I got a packet of two cuppaccino cheesecake slices instead (and mighty yummy they are too). I managed to get some custard tarts today instead (it looks like you will have to buy them on Sunday now too ;o)).

I weighed myself this morning and have managed to lose another pound.

Ok, some of it wasnt relevent - but what can you do ;o)
Another short week last week, and my last one for a while as my holiday year runs January to December. Its going to be a real struggle going back to doing a full week again!
We got a nice surprise in the post the other day...
...it was from Starbucks - a book of vouchers - 50p off any drink every day from 2nd to 29th January (weve used three each already ;o)), and even better, when we walked in there on Friday they would have given us the vouchers anyway as were regular customers - how good is that?
Im glad to say I wasnt the only person to have put on eight pounds over Christmas, I was chatting whilst waiting for my skinny venti dark cherry mocha (if reading it isnt bad enough try asking for one ;o)) from Starbucks and was chatting to a barista and she had put on the same amount of weight too!
I had two proper lunches this week one with my Sister, and one with my mates. The one with my mates was scrambled egg on toast, and my other lunch was chilli con carne with rice from Yates Wine Lodge. I was going to go for their chili loaded chips, but was told I should have something proper!
We have a mini fridge in our office, and it was that cold last week that when I got the bottle of water out it was frozen solid! I then spent the day pouring out the thawed water to drink. I can now look Ray Mears in the eye and tell him that I too have had to wait for water to defrost before I could drink it...
...Ray, if your ever thinking of doing an extreme office survival series you may want to retell my story. I would like my part to be played by Kathy Burke ;o).
You can guarantee the water will be frozen solid again tomorrow ;o).
I was doing the food shopping this morning and saw that Innocent have out a new flavour in their veg pots, its sweet potato chilli with chargrilled peppers & smoky paprika.
I weighed myself this morning and was well chuffed that I have lost three pounds.
Oh and a Happy New Year!
