Drive thru supermarket

I was reading through Metro on the train last night and came across an article about Tesco trialling its first drive thru store.

I do hope this does get rolled out across the country and that other stores look to do it too?

It will make food shopping so much easier

They're only starting it at the one store for now, in Baldock, to see how it goes. If it's a success then they'll look to roll it out to other stores as well but they haven't given any timescales for it. You may be waiting a while yet, unless you fancy moving to Hertfordshire?

I can see it being really popular myself. It would be very useful for those who don't want to have to actually go shopping and who don't have the time to wait for a two hour delivery slot at home. They could do their shopping in their lunch break and collect it on the way home.

There are two main drawbacks I can see. Firstly like the delivery service you don't get to pick your own fresh stuff or an alternative if your preferred item isn't available. Secondly, the charge for the service is reportedly just about £1 less than the service charge for having it delivered.

Im not sure that I am so keen if you have to pay so much for the service!

I used to be able to get James to do the service for free and he would have the shopping put away by the time I got home too ;o).

Then he got all stroppy and I have to do the shopping myself now ;o)

It would work out at around £5 (assuming they use a similar pricing structure as delivery whereby you pay more for peak times). Some might say that it's worth paying that to not have to set foot inside the store and brave the crowds!
